FSSB Update: Interim Chair Appointed

Following meetings of the FSSB Board and the Football Board held on 11th November 2024, we are able to provide an update.

John Woodhead was appointed by the FSSB board to act as interim Chair of FSSB with immediate effect.

Gareth Castick will act as interim Chair of the Football Board with immediate effect. All other existing football board members will continue in their current roles providing support to the club, staff and squad as before.

Mike Howarth has been appointed to the board of The Bury Football Club Company Limited as one of the four FSSB members that sit on that board, the others being Darren Bernstein, Ian Pearson and John Woodhead

Following the resignations of Phil Young and Marcel de Matas as FSSB board members on 8th November 2024, we have been in regular dialogue with the FSA regarding the forthcoming election.

The advice of the FSA is that the landscape has changed to such an extent that the election process should be cancelled and re-commence as soon as possible.  The process will now commence on 6th January 2025, when nominations will open, and will culminate in an EGM on 3rd March 2025 at which point the result will be announced.

Any person who submitted a nomination for election ahead of the original cut-off date of 5th November 2024 will be asked to confirm whether or not they intend to continue to stand and will not need to re-apply.

Members will be asked to vote for three candidates, to quote from the advice received from the FSA:

“The board resignations mean there is no need for the drawing of lots.  The rules require three seats to be up for election and three board members will have stood down by the time the election commences”.

Just to clarify, the AGM of FSSB remains scheduled for 18th December 2024.

Finally, we have been asked by Bury FC Benefactors Limited to release a statement from them which we have agreed to do. This can be accessed below.

The FSSB board is committed to collaborating with all stakeholders, including the benefactors, to secure the long-term future of Bury FC at Gigg Lane.
